We consider one of our strongest suits to be the variety we offer, both in style and instrumentation. In our family-friendly concerts, you may hear fiddle, guitar, clawhammer banjo, mandolin, tenor banjo, whistles, concertina, hand drum, and dulcimer. Although much of our music could be described a “folk” or “Americana,” heavily influenced by southern Appalachia and the British Isles, we are also liable to throw in some swing or jazz standards and original songs, both serious and humorous. We like to include some history and stories behind the instruments and songs and love engaging with the audience. Of course, we can also just provide background music for your event. We regularly provide music for contra dances, which sometimes has us traveling across the country. Often we play as a duo, with Marcia adding back-up piano to our already extensive menagerie of instruments. Occasionally, we are joined by our son Keenan, a professional musician who extends the variety even further with clarinet, saxophone, flute and piano. We also offer music for couple-dancing: waltzes, polkas, two-steps and swing. And Marcia loves calling simple dances for beginners.
